Alex Coolman spent more than a decade focused on postconviction representation in state and federal court for individuals convicted of serious felonies before pivoting towards civil rights litigation, motivated in part by the frequency with which his incarcerated clients were abused and neglected in California prisons.  He has litigated cases involving wrongful death, excessive force, retaliation, and jail and prison conditions.  He is a member of the National Police Accountability Project (NPAP), the Consumer Attorney Association of Los Angeles (CAALA), and Consumer Attorneys of San Diego (CASD).
