Edwin S. Salguero is a bilingual Attorney at the Law Offices of Christian Contreras and focuses his practice on civil rights violations, wrongful death, police shooting, excessive force, injury, and criminal defense cases.
Edwin earned his BA in Sociology from California State University Northridge. While attending school, he worked as a Special Education Assistant for LAUSD and assisted students with moderate and severe disabilities. After graduation, Edwin was employed at the nonprofit community mental health agency Child and Family Guidance Center as a Therapeutic Behavioral Services Specialist, where he gained invaluable experience working with diverse families, children of all ages, and a variety of mental health, educational, and legal professionals. In this role, he was able to hone his skills and provide intensive, individualized behavioral mental health services within home, community, and school settings.
Within this intensive outpatient program, Edwin supported children and families that were in crisis. During this time, Edwin's understanding of human dynamics evolved, and his empathy and compassion grew as a professional as he was assisting some of the most vulnerable individuals in society – severely emotionally disturbed individuals, individuals with bipolar disorders, schizophrenia, intermittent explosive disorder, sex abuse victims, foster youth, suicide survivors, and homicidal youth.
Edwin then earned his Juris Doctor from Loyola Law School. In law school, Edwin joined the Loyola Center for Conflict Resolution (LCCR) Dependency Court Mediation Clinic, which is part of the Loyola Social Justice Legal Clinics. As a Student-Mediator Edwin pulled from his mental health background and assisted vulnerable families by creating enduring parenting plans and court orders that meet the needs of the family. LCCR hired Edwin that same year as a Senior Conflict Resolution Associate/Mediator/Outreach Coordinator, making him the first law school student to be hired full-time in the 30-year history of LCCR.
While at LCCR Edwin gained vast experience assisting residents of Los Angeles County in resolving all types of civil law matters in all three of LCCR’s clinics – Conciliation/Mediation Clinic, Dependency Court Clinic, and Collaborative Family Law Clinic. Edwin further advanced his mediating skills with the opportunity to mediate international custody disputes. Edwin was also LCCR’s liaison to the Collaborative Family Law Clinic in which he coordinated and mediated divorces with a collaborative team of professionals from Los Angeles Collaborative Family Law Association (LACFLA). Before leaving LCCR Edwin mediated over 100 cases with over a 98% resolve rate and was a supervising attorney. In 2021, LCCR was recognized and invited to the White House for our work in assisting the community with the Eviction Moratorium.
Edwin then worked as an associate at a personal injury law firm where he handled approximately 100 cases per month and focused on negotiating high settlements for his clients.
Edwin’s experience in working with some of society’s most vulnerable and disenfranchised individuals across 15 years, has prepared him to work with people in crisis and support them at some of the most difficult times in their lives.
