Ivan Iakovlev, 22, died after the speeding sedan he was riding in hit a light pole on West Parthenia Street in Winnetka on July 28, 2026.

Winnetka, California (July 28, 2026) - A 22-year-old man died after the speeding sedan he was riding in struck a light pole in the San Fernando Valley neighborhood of Winnetka.
According to police, Ivan Iakovlev was a passenger in the sedan when it hit the pole in the 20500 block of West Parthenia Street, near Mason Avenue, at about 2 a.m. on July 28.
The impact tore the vehicle's engine from the car. Iakovlev was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
Police have not released the driver's identity or condition, and the crash remains under investigation. This is a developing story. Details may change as the investigation continues.
A passenger trusts the person behind the wheel with their life every time they get in the car, and a 22-year-old man paid for that trust with his own.
Getting into a car with a friend should never turn into a family's worst phone call, and the Iakovlev family is now living with a loss that speeding never had to cause.
