West Los Angeles, CA (August 24, 2026) - At least one person was hospitalized Monday morning after a two-vehicle crash sent a car into a building in the Sawtelle area of West Los Angeles, according to police and fire officials.

The crash happened around 8:45 a.m. in the 11400 block of Exposition Boulevard, near West Pico Boulevard and the 405 Freeway.

Police said two vehicles were involved, and one of them crashed into the building. Los Angeles firefighters freed the driver from the wreckage before paramedics took the injured person to a hospital.

The driver's condition was not immediately released. It was not stated whether anyone in the second vehicle was hurt, and the cause of the crash had not been determined.

This is a developing story. Details may change as the investigation continues.

Car Accidents in Los Angeles, California

When a two-vehicle crash sends one car into a building, the question of which driver caused the impact still comes down to ordinary negligence rules.

  • Who may be liable: whichever driver failed to yield, ran a signal, or was following too closely at the point of impact
  • What investigators examine: point of impact, each vehicle's speed, and any traffic control at the intersection
  • Why the property damage doesn't change the analysis: driving into a building is usually the result of the initial collision, not a separate cause of the crash

Because the cause here hasn't been determined, California's pure comparative negligence rule matters. An injured driver can still recover damages even if some fault is assigned to more than one party.

Personal injury claims must generally be filed within two years of the date of the crash (CCP 335.1). For this crash, that deadline is August 24, 2028.
