What to Do After a Two-Vehicle Freeway Crash in West Los Angeles, CA

The California DMV requires an SR-1 collision report within 10 days when anyone is injured, however slightly, or property damage exceeds $1,000. Injury information has not been released, so anyone hurt in this crash should treat the first days as important.

  1. Get checked. Whiplash, concussion, and internal injuries can surface days later, so see a doctor within 72 hours even without pain.
  2. Preserve evidence. Photograph the vehicles and any injuries, save dashcam footage, keep medical and repair records, and ask the CHP for the collision report number.
  3. Report carefully. If you were driving, file the SR-1 by November 12, 2026. Notify your own insurer, ask which coverages apply to medical bills and repairs, and decline a recorded statement to the other driver's insurer.
  4. Know where fault stands. The CHP has not said what caused the collision, so liability may rest with either driver or another party. California's pure comparative fault rule still lets a person who shares blame recover, with damages reduced by their share.
  5. Mind the deadline. Under CCP 335.1, a personal injury claim from this November 2, 2026 crash must generally be filed by November 2, 2028.
