Four people were hospitalized after an LAPD pursuit of a stolen vehicle ended in a multi-vehicle crash at 83rd Street and Normandie Avenue in South Los Angeles on September 7, 2026.

South Los Angeles, CA (September 7, 2026) - Four people were hospitalized after a police pursuit of a stolen vehicle ended in a multi-vehicle crash in South Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Police Department said officers began pursuing a stolen vehicle around 10:30 a.m. Monday.
About five minutes later, police said the suspect crashed into multiple vehicles at the intersection of 83rd Street and Normandie Avenue.
Police said they were not immediately sure whether any of the struck vehicles were parked at the time. The Los Angeles City Fire Department said four patients were transported to the hospital from the scene but did not release information on their conditions.
It is not yet known what led to the pursuit.
This is a developing story. Details may change as the investigation continues.
People struck by a fleeing suspect during a police pursuit did nothing to cause the collision that hurt them. Steps that matter for uninvolved drivers and bystanders:
A driver who flees from police and crashes into other vehicles can be held civilly liable to everyone that crash hurt, separate from any criminal charges the suspect faces. In some cases, questions about the pursuit itself, including how and where it was conducted, can also become part of the investigation. California's pure comparative fault rule means a partial finding against any party does not automatically bar recovery. Injury claims from this crash must generally be filed within two years of the crash date, by September 7, 2028 (CCP 335.1).
Getting hit by a car you never saw coming because someone else was fleeing police is a frightening and disorienting way to be injured, and it is not something anyone should have to sort out alone.
Our Los Angeles car accident lawyers have handled crashes stemming from police pursuits and know how to identify every party who may share responsibility. Surveillance footage from nearby businesses along Normandie Avenue is often overwritten within days, so it is worth requesting now.
We work on contingency, meaning there is no upfront cost and nothing owed unless we win your case.
