Sherman Oaks, CA - Motorcyclist Gary Minor, 60, Killed on 405 Freeway After Runaway Tire Sends Him Into Traffic

Sherman Oaks, California (August 26, 2026) - A 60-year-old motorcyclist was killed on the southbound 405 Freeway after a tire from an unidentified vehicle crossed into his lane, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 11:15 a.m. on the morning of August 26, near the Burbank Boulevard and US 101 interchange. The county medical examiner's office identified the victim as Gary Minor, 60.

Dashcam footage from a nearby Tesla, later obtained by KTLA, shows a tire bouncing from the northbound lanes of the 405, crossing the center divider, and entering the southbound carpool lane where Minor was riding. It remains unclear whether Minor or his motorcycle was struck directly by the tire, or whether he lost control trying to avoid it.

Minor fell from the motorcycle into traffic and was struck by a driver in a white Toyota SUV. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

CHP has not located the tire or identified the vehicle it separated from. Loved ones, including a coworker at the estate sale company where Minor worked, have since come forward describing him as someone who could be anyone's best friend.
