Pico-Union, Los Angeles - Two Hospitalized After Sedan Strikes Pedestrian, Waymo in Venice Boulevard Crash

Pico-Union, Los Angeles (July 26, 2026) - A crash involving a Waymo autonomous vehicle sent two people to the hospital early Sunday morning in the 1000 block of Venice Boulevard, the Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed.

A Waymo spokesperson said the Waymo vehicle was traveling eastbound at approximately 27 miles per hour on Venice Boulevard when it was hit by a blue sedan traveling in the opposite direction at 47 to 50 miles per hour. Before the collision, the spokesperson said, the sedan struck a pedestrian pushing a cart outside of a crosswalk at approximately 42 miles per hour, then swerved into the opposite lane and struck the Waymo vehicle.

The crash was reported at 5:45 a.m. on July 26, 2026. LAFD confirmed two people were taken to the hospital. Waymo said it is coordinating with first responders as the investigation continues.
