Norwalk, CA - Deadly Pileup on 5 Freeway Involves Amazon Big Rig

Norwalk, CA (September 10, 2026) - Just after midnight Thursday, a crash involving an Amazon big rig, a cargo van, and two other vehicles left at least one person dead on the southbound 5 Freeway near Norwalk, according to the California Highway Patrol's Santa Fe Springs station.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department responded alongside CHP. The big rig sustained front-cab damage and a shattered windshield, and the cargo van ended up on its side. Several southbound lanes stayed blocked for hours into the Thursday morning commute while crews cleared debris and towed the vehicles.

The conditions of the other two drivers involved were not released. CHP had not said what caused the crash as of Thursday, and investigators had not determined whether either driver would face citations.
