Maricopa, CA - Osvaldo Jaimes Jr., 22, and Janneth Guerrero, 55, Killed in Highway 33 Head-On Crash

Maricopa, California (July 24, 2026) - Osvaldo Ramon Ortega Jaimes Jr., 22, and Janneth Guerrero, 55, both of Bakersfield, died after a head-on collision on Highway 33 just south of Elkhorn Grade Road, according to the California Highway Patrol and the Kern County Coroner's Office.

The crash happened around 4 p.m. on July 24, when a 2005 Honda Civic driven by Jaimes was traveling northbound and a 2022 Honda Accord driven by Brandon Lopez, 21, of New Cuyama, was traveling southbound. For reasons still under investigation, the CHP said the Civic crossed into the southbound lane and struck the Accord head-on.

Jaimes and Guerrero, a passenger in the Civic, were pronounced dead at the scene. Three additional passengers in the Civic suffered moderate to major injuries, and Lopez suffered major injuries as well. Two air ambulances and three ground ambulances responded to transport the injured to Bakersfield hospitals.

The CHP said alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been factors in the crash. The cause remains under investigation.
