Los Angeles, CA - Waymo Struck and Left Damaged in Pico-Union Hit-and-Run

Los Angeles, CA (September 21, 2026) - A driverless Waymo vehicle was left damaged after a hit-and-run crash in the Pico-Union neighborhood early Monday morning, according to preliminary information from the Los Angeles Police Department.

The crash occurred around 2:30 a.m. on the morning of September 21, 2026, at the intersection of West Pico Boulevard and South Union Avenue. Video obtained by KTLA showed the autonomous vehicle struck on the left side, with visible damage to both doors and the underside of the car.

A bumper believed to belong to the vehicle that struck the Waymo was found near the scene as LAPD officers and other first responders investigated. Some reporting has indicated that two vehicles may have struck the Waymo, though that detail had not been verified by law enforcement as of publication.

It was not immediately known whether a passenger was riding in the Waymo at the time of the crash. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
