Lake Forest, CA - 22-Year-Old Arrested After Suspected DUI Crash Kills Man in His 70s

Lake Forest, California (August 6, 2026) - The Orange County Sheriff's Department said a man in his 70s died and a 22-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI following a two-vehicle crash near El Toro Road and Via Ridgeline Road.

Deputies responded to the crash at approximately 9:40 p.m. on the evening of August 6. Orange County Fire Authority paramedics arrived and found the man dead at the scene, according to sheriff's officials. His name has been withheld pending notification of his next of kin.

The driver of the second vehicle, 22-year-old Joel Obed MendezCamargo of Lake Forest, was suspected of driving under the influence of a controlled substance, authorities said. He was arrested and booked into the Orange County Jail on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

The Orange County Sheriff's Department's Major Accident Investigation Team has taken over the investigation.
