La Puente, CA (July 2, 2026) - About 5:45 a.m. on July 2, 2026, a motorcyclist was killed in a crash involving a minivan at the intersection of East Amar Road and North Evanwood Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

A California Highway Patrol spokesperson said the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene and had not been identified. Whether the driver of the minivan was injured was unknown.

Aerial footage from the scene showed significant damage to the left side of the minivan, though it was unclear whether that damage occurred during the crash. The motorcycle came to rest near the vehicle's front left tire in the middle of the intersection.

Neighbors told a local news crew that the minivan's driver was an undercover officer with the Alhambra Police Department. Neither the Alhambra Police Department nor CHP had confirmed that account as of publication, and the department had not responded to requests for information about why it was in the area.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.

This is a developing story. Details may change as the investigation continues.

A family in La Puente is now facing the sudden loss of someone they loved on their morning commute, with more questions than answers about how it happened.

Fatal Motorcycle Accidents in California

A motorcyclist killed by another vehicle at an intersection raises questions that go beyond the crash report. Who had the right of way, whether the minivan driver was distracted or speeding, and whether the vehicle was being operated for work all shape who can be held responsible.

  • Right-of-way and turning violations are common causes of intersection crashes involving motorcycles, which are harder to see than passenger vehicles.
  • Dashcam and traffic camera footage near La Puente intersections is often overwritten within days, so it needs to be requested quickly.
  • Comparative fault may reduce, but does not automatically bar, a family's recovery. California follows a pure comparative fault rule, meaning compensation is available at any percentage of fault assigned to the other side.
  • If the driver is confirmed to be a government employee acting within the scope of duty, the family may need to file a formal government tort claim within six months of the crash, by January 2, 2027, under the California Government Claims Act, in addition to any other filing requirements. That deadline runs separately from the standard timeline and is easy to miss while an agency investigation is still open.
  • Absent that confirmation, California's standard personal injury statute of limitations gives the family two years from the date of the crash, until July 2, 2028, to file a civil claim (CCP § 335.1).

An open investigation does not pause these deadlines. Waiting for a final CHP report before contacting an attorney can cost a family weeks it doesn't have.
