Two semitrucks collided on the 210 Freeway in La Crescenta on August 19, 2026, overturning one truck and trapping a car, CHP said.

La Crescenta, California (August 19, 2026) - Two semitrucks collided on the westbound 210 Freeway near Pennsylvania Avenue shortly before 11 a.m. on August 19, 2026, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The impact caused one of the trucks to overturn and spill its cargo across several lanes, Los Angeles County Fire Department officials said. It was not immediately clear what the truck was hauling.
A third vehicle, described as a Mercedes-Benz sedan, was also involved in the collision. The sedan became wedged underneath the trailer of the overturned semi. Firefighters transported three people to nearby hospitals. Their conditions were not immediately known.
CHP officers issued a SigAlert closing all westbound lanes and rerouted traffic through the center median toward State Route 2. Eastbound lanes were not affected. Officers gave no estimate for when the freeway would reopen, and the cause of the crash remained under investigation.
This is a developing story. Details may change as the investigation continues.
Commercial truck crashes rarely trace back to one cause, and this one involves an overturned trailer, spilled cargo, and a car pinned underneath it. Several parties can share liability:
If you were hurt in this crash:
No driver has been publicly assigned fault while the investigation is open. California follows a pure comparative fault rule, so a person can still recover damages even if found partly responsible, with the award reduced by their share.
Personal injury claims in California must generally be filed within two years of the crash (CCP 335.1). For this collision, that deadline falls on August 19, 2028.
Being trapped or hurt in a crash involving an overturned big rig on a shut-down freeway is frightening, and not knowing your own condition or anyone else's in the aftermath is one of the hardest parts.
