Koreatown, Los Angeles, CA (early September 2026) - An ice cream vendor was injured after a driver he believed was intoxicated rear-ended him near James M. Wood Boulevard and Hoover Street, according to the vendor.

Armando Jacinto Calderón said he was working his cart when the impact threw him roughly 12 feet. He suffered a fractured rib along with damage to his cheekbone, nose, and back.

Calderón said he saw the other driver get out of the vehicle, appearing intoxicated. No agency has publicly confirmed an arrest, citation, or impairment finding in connection with the crash, and the exact date has not been released.

This is a developing story. Details may change as more information becomes available.

Drunk Driving Accidents in Los Angeles, California

A driver who appears intoxicated at the scene of a crash can face both criminal charges and separate civil liability, and the two proceedings move on different timelines. A civil injury claim does not have to wait for a criminal case to conclude.

Attorneys building a case like this typically look at:

  • Any police report, citation, or DUI investigation tied to the crash
  • Witness accounts describing the other driver's condition and behavior
  • Medical records documenting the injuries and ongoing treatment
  • Whether the striking driver carried insurance sufficient to cover the harm caused

If the other driver was uninsured or underinsured, a claim may still be available through the victim's own uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage.

Personal injury claims in California must generally be filed within two years of the date of the crash (CCP 335.1). Because the exact crash date has not been publicly released, that deadline will need to be calculated once it is confirmed.
