Hyde Park, California (July 10, 2026) - A multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of Crenshaw Boulevard and West 78th Street left two men dead and a young girl in critical condition, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. The crash was reported just before 10:45 a.m.

Police said the Toyota Camry carrying the victims was attempting a left turn from Crenshaw Boulevard onto West 78th Street when it was struck by a black BMW traveling on Crenshaw. Surveillance video from a nearby convenience store appeared to show the BMW speeding alongside another car moments before the crash.

The Camry's driver and a passenger were pronounced dead at the scene on the morning of July 10. A young girl riding in the backseat was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. The BMW driver was also injured. A third vehicle parked nearby was damaged in the collision.

Investigators do not suspect drugs or alcohol played a role, a police spokesperson said. No identities have been officially released, and the cause remains under investigation.

This is a developing story. Details may change as the investigation continues.

A crash that takes two people and leaves a child fighting for her life leaves a family with more grief than answers, and no timeline for either.

What to Do After a Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash in Los Angeles, California

A fatal crash involving more than one vehicle often means more than one party carries legal responsibility, and sorting that out takes time the family doesn't get back later.

  • Can the family pursue a claim before the police finish their investigation? Yes. A civil wrongful death claim runs separately from any criminal proceeding against the other driver.
  • Who may be liable? The driver of the vehicle traveling at excessive speed is the primary focus, though the vehicle's registered owner can also share responsibility if it isn't the same person.
  • Does the Camry's left turn change the family's case? Not automatically. California follows a pure comparative fault rule, so even if the Camry's driver bore some share of fault, the family can still recover damages reduced by that percentage.
  • What about the child's injuries? A child's claim for medical costs and future care is separate from the wrongful death claim and runs on its own timeline.
  • What is the filing deadline? Wrongful death claims in California must generally be filed within two years of the date of death (CCP § 377.60). For this crash, that deadline is July 10, 2028.
