Corona, CA - Woman Killed After Car Slams Into Her Stalled Vehicle on the 91 Freeway

Corona, CA (September 23, 2026) - A woman died after a car struck her stalled sedan on the westbound 91 Freeway in Corona, sparking a fire she could not escape, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash happened just after 1 a.m. on September 23, 2026, on the westbound 91 at Green River Road, CHP Officer Javier Navarro said.

The woman's Nissan Altima had stopped in the No. 2 lane for reasons still under investigation. She got out and walked around to the front of the car, apparently intending to call for help, Navarro said.

Moments later, a Hyundai Accent struck the rear of the Nissan at an unconfirmed speed, according to Navarro. The impact pushed the Nissan into the woman and into the vehicle's windshield. The Nissan then caught fire.

Corona Fire Department crews put out the blaze within minutes, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Hyundai suffered minor injuries. CHP said there was no indication of intoxication.
